towards Etosha

Writer's picture: ToldiToldi

From our last stop, Bagani on the Okavango, there are many kilometres to go to Etosha National Park.

Farewell at the Okavango, all nice guys. They all try very hard to do everything right and to please the guests.

There are plenty of butchers on the roadside that offer fresh meat (at 37 degrees in the shade)

To the left and right of the road is quite green with trees and fields. A large part of the corn and wheat required for Namibia is grown here.

The route leads through Grootfontein, a town with many gardens and green spaces.

Although 69% of the population are Christians, the church buildings are modest.

On the side of the road near Grootfontein you can marvel at the largest meteorite in the world. It hit here 80,000 years ago. It weighs 50,000 kilos and is made up of 80% iron.

The Kupferzell campsite provided us with a delicious dinner. Namibian food is unrivalled.

We are really looking forward to tomorrow: Etosha and its animals.

Namutoni

In the national parks you have to book the campsites in advance. We booked 3 different ones and started in Namutoni.

In Namutoni there is an old German fort,

This now serves as a hotel.

On the outer wall we discovered the following inscription

Afterwards we went on a little game drive with Mr Keo. Luck was on our side

Giraffes drinking and you won’t believe it,

A sleepy lion on the side of the road and another one next to it but not as nice.

Things can continue like this tomorrow, we are still missing the leopard.

The camp for tomorrow is called Halali, it's almost like home 😀

The camp here has an illuminated waterhole, so we're going there now. Let's see what's going on there.
