problems solved

The consumer battery has been causing problems since Namibia. It is the battery that is fed by the alternator and the solar panels. Fully charged in the evening, the red "empty" light flashes in the morning. Not good if you want to stay somewhere for two days and the fridge has no power. Luckily we were able to get a new battery in Cape Town.

Tom, our car builder, gave us the technical details. We were able to get a battery with the same dimensions. A gel battery, i.e. one without lead or acid, with the same dimensions as Tom specified.

There was a small difference: our cable flanges were connected with M6 screws and the new battery with M8.

It's not that bad, we can handle it.

In principle it wouldn't be so bad, but if you can see where the battery has to go, then yes.

Everything is very tight in Mr Leo's. Remove the refrigerator and you can get to the consumer battery. That would still be possible if Tom had thought about the fact that M8 screws might also have to be used. The flanges of the

The negative pole, which is right at the back, was extremely small, so small that you couldn't even drill it open, so you had to cut it through and push it underneath.

But what to do, it has to be done.

Removing the 29 kg battery and putting in the new one was relatively easy.

The problem is caused solely by the small cable flanges. It is important to remember that models advertised as long-distance travel vehicles are built in such a way that alternative products can easily be used.

after 3 hours of sweaty work (overhead, arm twisting and left-hand exercises)

everything worked perfectly again and luckily it was the battery and not something else that caused the problems.

And one more good thing at the end, the rest of the tour group called me a hero 😀👍. That went really well for me.

Where have we gone today?

Cape Hope is not the southernmost point of Africa, Cape Lagulhas is. This is where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. And Cape Hope? Is the most south-westerly point.

Mr Leo is standing here today not far from the lighthouse. It is a beautiful landscape. The hake tastes delicious. Tomorrow we will continue a little further inland before returning to the coast at Mossel Bay.

Here is a little overview of where we are right now.
