Lions in Makalali

Writer's picture: ToldiToldi

After an extremely hot and pleasant day, we leave the Kruger National Park with lots of animal impressions. We drive north to the Makalali Game Resort, where we will stay in the lodge for 2 nights.

Above lion comes

Transport of employees to the citrus plantations.

Makalali is a private resort, approximately as large as the districts of Todtmoos and Herrischried combined.

The first gate is 11 kilometers from the lodge and we first have the route explained to us 😂 . Access is only permitted for larger 4x4 vehicles (this is not a problem for Mr. Leo and is out of the question)

Guests with small vehicles must stop here and will be picked up.

The way to the lodge took some getting used to, but it was no problem for Mr. Leo.

Of course, you had to sign immediately not to get out because there are lions and leopards. Toldi said we wouldn't do that anyway.

Immediately after arrival there is a so-called game drive, no long time to inspect the room.

What is a game drive? We didn't know that either. Animal observation with a guide. We sat in the Landcruiser that had been converted to a 10-seater. Mandile is a tough driver who demands a lot from the vehicle. I can only be amazed.

In fact, after about 2 hours we come across a pride of lions that have made themselves comfortable while eating a kudu.

This is nature up close and the vultures are already waiting to see if anything is left.

We are still surprised that only lionesses and lion cubs eat and lie around here.

But then he comes:

Pretty grumpy, everything he had eaten was gone.

Our guide quickly retreated from his seat in the front of the car into the car. When a lion king walks past just 3 meters in front of the car, he too feels uneasy.

It was really fun today, the morning drive and evening drive with lovely people from Australia, England, Holland and us Germans. The people from the Makalali team are really great and offer everything they have and can.

No matter whether it is Love the boss or Friday with the slingshot who accompanies us to the bungalow to fend off monkeys and leopards.

Or Mandile the tough driver or Peace the tracker. Everyone gives their all to ensure that the guests and friends are happy.

It was fun here, but we're moving on to new experiences tomorrow.
