Blyde River Canyon

Writer's picture: ToldiToldi

After a long day's drive from Seneka, where we had a long conversation in the morning with Johann, the owner of the campsite, about what it was like when the black population took power with Nelson Mandela.

In the evening we found good accommodation for our tour group again.

A wonderful light when the sun rises in the morning. We have driven about 700 km to get here through sparsely populated countryside.

700 kilometers, potato cultivation, sunflowers, corn and livestock farming.

If you think about it, from Basel to Bielefeld!

Suddenly, we drove a so-called pass road

The landscape changed completely. Pine forests as far as the eye could see, mountains, valleys.

Women walking home with a machete in their hand and a bundle of grass on their heads.

A really beautiful landscape that we drive through.

We were able to spend the night at the Forever Lodge just north of Carolina.

There was a full moon yesterday so we could sleep well today.

Today we continued to the Blyde River Canyon.

A few short walks then led us to the most beautiful viewpoints.

From there you can see across the Kruger National Park to Mozambique.

A little further on, you can also reach the Potholes after short walks in 36 degree heat.

Blyde River Canyon

gorge in South Africa

The Blyde River Canyon is a 26-kilometre-long, up to 800-metre-deep canyon made mainly of red sandstone . It is located on the Panorama Route northeast of Johannesburg and is considered one of the great natural wonders of Africa .

In the evening we are actually already too late to make accommodation and also find

no more campsite. After 30 nights Mr Leo could go back to a hotel, said Toldi. If you look, you will find.

We find a fabulously beautiful lodge in a private game reserve and let ourselves be really, really pampered.

Toldi says: "We can do everything except High German"

Tomorrow we're going to the Kruger National Park. To look at animals, says our friend Toldi, but he's a little scared.
