A journey comes to an end

Writer's picture: ToldiToldi

After around 13,000 kilometers, many of them on gravel roads, our trip to Africa comes to an end. We were able to gain a real impression of the individual countries. Of poverty and wealth, of great contrasts. We were able to experience great landscapes, hospitality, conversations and silence. Border officials and police officers, small-scale gangsterisms but never anything dangerous.

Mr. Leo hosted us for 45 nights, 21 of which we slept in lodges or hotels.

But the best place to sleep is always in Mr. Leo. We don't know why, but it's like sleeping in the great outdoors. There are only mosquito nets to the left, right and back, and you can see the stars twinkling through the skylight.

The great thing about Africa, especially Namibia, contrary to expectations, always good food, if you are lucky, even with a great sea view

Delicious oysters or a super cod

But important for every Namibian:

A hearty breakfast in the morning

and for us, of course, for little money. Everything on the table costs the equivalent of 14.50 euros

The most beautiful thing about Africa:

It's the animals that we encounter in abundance. They can move freely in their huge habitats. It's just great when you drive slowly through the bush and suddenly there are elephants in front of you. Or giraffes, zebras, hyenas and others.

It could also be a lion, but you never really know if you'll see one. Nobody can force it. You can only enjoy the moment.

Sometimes it really is just a moment

Tomorrow we will have our faithful companion Mr. Leo thoroughly washed and, if possible, polished. He has suffered a lot and has received many scratches from the prickly acacia bushes. The paths are often so narrow that you can't get through without pushing the bushes to the left and right. That just scratches you and hurts you.

After that we will pack what we are taking home with us, the rest will stay with Mr. Leo. Mr. Leo will go in a sea container and sail back to Hamburg. We will take a rental car and drive the 430 kilometers to Windhoek, from where we will fly first to Johannesburg and then to Frankfurt.

Let's hope there is no strike at home, then we'll be back early on Good Friday.

Now we are really looking forward to going home.

We say goodbye with our favorite picture from this trip.

We would like to thank all our friends and blog readers once again for accompanying us, so we always have a piece of home with us.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy Easter and see you again soon.
